Many digital marketers today recommend SEO and think that it is the best and only solution for the success of a website.

However, they do not give any importance to the brand building and usability of a website which is as important as any other factor in the success of a website.

In our opinion, optimizing your website for Search Engines can certainly increase your rank in Google and get your traffic as well, however it does not assure that the visitor coming on to your website is going to convert or not.

In our opinion, website usability is a bigger and important parameter before we begin SEO so that all the efforts and money spent in optimizing the website does not go waste.

Many people make a mistake in selecting the correct website development partner for their business and regret once their website is near completion. Normally, people generally ask for prior experience and cost estimate and make a decision based on these two parameters.

However, selecting the right website development partner for your business is very important as that is the first step for your online business and should be handled with care and with the help of a professional team.

One should consider the following parameters at the time of evaluating the right partner :

Business Establishment

You should know how old the web development company is and who are its owners / promoters. This gives you a fair bit of idea about the company’s credibility and you are sure that it is not a fly by night company

Current Clients

It is very important to know the list of current clients of the web development company as you can check their references and also evaluate the kind of work this company undertakes.

Case Studies

Once you know the current clients, it would be good to know if there are any case studies the company has to showcase as part of their presentation. This gives you a fair bit of idea that the company will go the extra mile to create another successful case study for your business rather than simply create a website and forget about it.

Team Size

Knowing the team size and structure is an important aspect since you want to be sure that your project will be handled by a team of experts and not by any individual. Moreover, this gives you a fair bit of idea about the resources which can act as backup, if the main developer working on your project goes on leave.

Team Strengths

After you know the team size of the company, you should also know the various aspects of website designing they can undertake in future.

For example, currently you might be looking for a website development but if the company as a Search Engine Optimization team, then they would develop your website in a way which supports the parameters for Search Engine, since they would have the required expertise and skillset

Core Competency

Once you know the various strengths of the company, it is imperative to know their core competency.

For example, you might not like to get your website developed from a team who are specialists in Website Promotions and also undertake website development work as a secondary line of business.

Prior Relevant Experience

It is always a good idea to know if this company has developed any projects in the same industry you are into.

For example, if you are in the automobile industry and the development company has a prior working experience with some client in the same industry, it is quite probable that they would know the user’s expectations from such websites and how the industry works.

Strategy for your website

At the evaluation stage, always ask for a strategy that the development company can suggest for your kind of business online. Just creating a website based on your instructions will not be enough since it would be great to have a development team who can suggest more ideas and provide more value to the project.

Account Management Team

Once you are satisfied with all the above parameters, it would be a good idea to know the team who is going to manage your project. This will give you a good idea about the kind of resources which will be deployed for your project, escalation matrix , etc.

Cost

The proposed cost by the web development company surely plays a vital role for you to take a decision. However, the cost should not only be evaluated on the basis of other quotations received, but also on the basis of all the above factors in mind.

At times, going with a company who is slightly expensive but has a fair bit of understanding of your requirements and industry is always a safer bet than going with a company who is the cheapest of the lot.

Timelines

You need to ensure that the timelines being proposed by the web development company is as per your initial plan since you do not want your project to get completed after months of expectations, since timing is a very important aspect in any business.

Scope of Work

Make sure you get a detailed scope of work from the company at the time of signing the contract. This not only gives enough clarity to both the parties, but also saves a lot of time at the development stage since all the requirements are well documented, thus saving on time to roll out the final website.

All he above points, though important, are not hard and fast rules before finalizing a web development company. The rules can differ from projects to projects, but it is always advisable to keep the above in mind at the time of evaluating several web development companies.

Today, many companies wants to have their Business Page created on Facebook and are looking to create more and more fans by different means of engagement.

These fans on such Facebook pages can be categorized into various sections :

Bought Fans

Fans who are forced to join to participate in a contest which offers freebie

Fans who really are interested in the content of that page

Many marketers make the same mistake by focusing on creating fans by way of Ads or engaging content which is not related in any way with that company or the industry it operates in, just to maximize the fan following on that page and showcase it as their success story.

Imagine a company X having 10,000 fans who have no concern about the company or its respective industry versus a company Y having 5,000 fans who are concerned about the company or its industry and do engage with the content which is directly or indirectly related to the company is some way.

The real success of Social Media Marketing on Facebook is not by the number of fan following a company has, but should be measured in terms of the level of engagement of these fans who would eventually become influencers for your brand and invite more and more people to join, which in fact is the true meaning of Social Media Marketing.

One should also consider the sentiments of the fans engaging in various types of communications on the brand page and identify if they have a positive, negative or neutral view about the company.

Thus, an ongoing measurement of engagement level and sentiment analysis of the fans will give a real index of the success of Social Media Marketing on Facebook and if both these parameters are positive, the fan following will increase on its own through social reference.

We have seen many websites ranking high on Google on various keywords and key phrases relevant to their business. Yet, at times when we click on them and explore the inner pages, we do not find the relevant information we were looking for.

There are these SEO companies who does anything and everything to bring your site on top ranks on Google using various SEO techniques like Link Building, Posting, Meta Tags, Content Posting on various blogs and forums, etc. Some companies also create blogs on your own website and write content so that Google identifies it as “quality” resource for internet surfers.

The question is that does search engines really identifies the true “quality” of content. For instance, if you write funny content which does not makes sense or is poor in English, but have the right combination of keywords used in it, Google will still consider it as quality content.

Thus, no matter what the content on the website is, you can pay these SEO companies to get your site ranked on top positions on keywords you want.

With the above in place, does Google really plan to modify its algorithm to re-define the word “Quality Content” ??
